R550 Receives UL Approval with Mactac® Durable Films

12/15/17

Mactac® announced Thursday the addition of DNP’s R550 to their Underwriters Laboratories (UL) approved durable films with thermal transfer ribbons.

R550 Extreme Durable Resin is designed to withstand most chemicals used in automotive, chemical, pharmaceutical, electronics and other industries. It is known to print extremely small, crisp and clearly readable characters with great precision and offers a smooth and complete ink transfer at lower heat settings.

“When paired with Mactac Durable Films, R550 provides extreme resistance against most chemicals,” said Danielle Wiltrout, Technical Product Specialist. “We are pleased to join forces with Mactac to bring a strong, UL approved solution for the toughest thermal transfer applications.”

Mactac Durable Film Products are high-performance adhesive labels designed to resist extreme hot and cold temperatures, moisture, UV light and chemical exposure in applications such as nameplate, brand identification, chemical drum, wet-cell battery, caution and warning labels and compliance and hazard labels. Mactac durable films that have been pre-approved for use with DNP’s R550 thermal transfer ribbon include:

  • FCD6914: 2.0-mil white polyester
  • FGD6914N: 2.0-mil brushed silver polyester
  • FFD6914N: 2.0-mil matte silver polyester
  • FJD6914: 2.0-mil bright silver void polyester

“We want to continue to provide our customers with a portfolio of solutions that can confidently meet recognized standards for durability and environmental resistance,” said Kim Hensley, marketing manager, Mactac Performance Adhesives. “Through a joint effort, it’s easy to address the requirements of UL knowing the full solution—label base material, pressure-sensitive adhesive and thermal printing—together pass the standard.”
